The choice fell on Harmony 38 PTE from the French shipyard Groupe Poncin. Our yacht is a 2006 model equipped with a 40 hp Volvo Penta. The yachts are fast and strong, and well suited for sailing in arctic waters..
Harmony has developed its own Resin Transfer Moulding method of construction. It uses a system of vacuum injection, where the female mould is first sprayed with gelcoat then the fibres and 20mm PVC closed cell foam are laid onto the cured gel. A second male mould then closes onto the hull and resin is injected under pressure into the fibres. Floor plates are pre-positioned when the resin is vacuum injected in the sealed moulds. Kevlar is used to reinforce the stem and heavily loaded areas. The result is a very strong construction, and a smooth finish inside and out.
S/Y Romar is equipped with a four-cylinder Volvo Penta D2 40 of 27.9 kW (38 hp). Relatively low cruising rpm gives quiet operation with little vibration. The engine is equipped with a 115 A alternator which ensures good charge capacity when the engine is running. Volvo Penta is not exactly known for cheap spare parts, but they are available almost everywhere.

Fantastic to see you sailing the arctic in a Harmony 38
